On 1 April 2016,  Yangtsz  River Delta followed the pace of Hong Kong on reducing the pollutions from ships and use low sulphur fuel oil with less than 0.5% sulphur content during berthing. The Pearl River Delta should follow the suit before 2017. We also suggest:

  • By 2017: tighten the sulfur content of fuels of berthing ships from 0.5% to 0.1%
  • By 2018: set up emission control zone in Hong Kong, only ships using low sulfur fuel oil with less than 0.5% sulfur content are allowed to enter the emission control zone
  • By 2019: set up emission control zone in the Pearl River Delta
