CWS "Save" Youth Survey
Friend of CAN, Child Welfare Scheme (CWS) has initiated an education campaign about how air pollution affects the health of children called S.A.V.E. There is much scientific evidence that air pollution is a serious threat to health, lung function and development in children. CWS’ campaign informs children about this threat to their physical development; reinforces that knowledge with practical exercises to measure and understand the effects of air pollution on health; engages children in critical thinking about air pollution issues; and empowers them to protect themselves.
Elements of this campaign
- Survey – to find out what children know, where they learn about and how they feel about air pollution;
- Academic/Action – to teach children about air pollution and engage them in thinking critically about air pollution through lessons and activities integrated into the school curricula, and develop steps to measure and protect children from the effects of air pollution;
- Voice – to enable children to voice themselves about air pollution to their families and communities
- Education – for the children to teach the public about air pollution and its effects on health
Objectives of the Survey
Short-term:
- Give the children of Hong Kong a voice by way of a survey as part of the public consultation on Hong Kong’s new Air Quality Objectives.
- Encourage the adoption of short-term methods for protection of health against the effects of air pollution.
Long-term:
- Change the consciousness of Hong Kong people by integrating air pollution issues into children’s education,
- which we hope will lead to cleaner air and better health for children and people of Hong Kong.
