“Understanding Air Pollution, Understanding Your Community”

Join us this Sunday in West Kowloon Centre for our kick-off ceremony, the first in a series of community events co-organised with Sham Shui Po District Council. Public health and environmental experts, Dr. Lai Hak-kan and Dr. Lau Ngai-ting, and Dr. Yu Chak Man will make guest appearances to discuss air pollution and health. You can find details of the event and our 5-month project on our website.

VOTE for your favorite “Art for Air” entry!

CAN and Ben & Jerry’s Art for Air contest has attracted more than 200 creative entries. In view of the enthusiastic response, the voting period has been extended by two more weeks so that everyone can view the drawings and vote for their favorite! You can vote once each day!

Remember, the drawings with the most votes from you, the public, become finalists – eligible to win a big, yummy ice cream party. The winner will be announced during the second week of October, so cast your vote here now!

SCMP: Breathing space
Christine Loh, the Chairman of CAN, echoes Shaw in today’s op-ed about defining Hong Kong’s quality of life so it takes account of the public health impacts of various environmental policies. To measure pollution reduction any other way is really beside the point. Loh urges Hong Kong and Guangdong authorities to invest in public health studies relating to air and water, so they can properly decide on the best options for development. Read more here.
