For example, free (reliable) street parking can result in undesirable outcomes like greater traffic congestion and more drivers in a city. Similarly, the parking behavior of private vehicle owners can determine whether an open space or multi-story enclosed parking lot is built, affecting traffic flows and even dispersion of air pollutants (“the wall effect”).
