Yau Ma Tei

Since 2000, Yau Ma Tei’s air quality has systematically violated Hong Kong’s lax Air Quality Objectives. But the Government has taken no action. More than 10 roads and flyovers were built close to housing estate, Prosperous Garden, without any mitigation measures. To make things worse, the Government intends to build the opening of the Central Kowloon Route next to Prosperous Garden. Air pollution in that area will undoubtedly worsen as a consequence. Mr. Edward Lee has formed an “Environmental Group on Central Kowloon Route” and, together with Yau Ma Tei residents, urged the Government to move the intended tunnel opening away from Prosperous Garden and add landscaping to alleviate the problem. The CAN website functions as a bulletin board for news and complaints from the community. Although CAN cannot directly judge the facts or legality of these complaints, we post them on behalf of concerned Hong Kong residents, in order to consolidate and amplify the efforts of Hong Kongers desirous of cleaning up Hong Kong’s air pollution, especially in their specific area. If you live in one of these areas and share the same complaint, we encourage you to get in touch with those who are already working on the same issue.
