Do we have to wait for another quarter of century?

Renew AQOs Before 2012

Dear public,

Don’t you find Hong Kong’s air choking? We’ve been using the dated Air Quality Objectives (AQOs) for almost quarter of century, which tells us nothing of the air we breathe. The Chief Executive told us he would renew the AQOs by the end of the year in May.  We’ve heard that he does not mean it. Haven’t we paid dearly with our own health for the dated AQOs?  Will it take another quarter of century for a breath of clean air?  Please join our petition to the government.  Put you name and email address in the above blanks for these requests:

1)      update the Air Quality Objectives, in order to better protect public health;

2)      include fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in its official air quality monitoring;

3)      set up additional protocols to ensure regular review of air quality policy.

Your signatures will be advertised with a joint statement by Clean Air Network and Friends of the Earth (HK) for immediate renewal of AQOs.

  2. Is Hong Kong content to slowly suffocate in its own bodily emissions? If we don’t speak up now, we’ll have only ourselves to blame.

  3. Why won’t the HK Government do more to clean up the environment? The air we breathe is hazardous and the streets, the sea and the beaches are filthy.

  4. Air pollution in HK is a very serious matter that will have long term consequences to everyone living here. The HK government should make improving the air quality an urgent priority, as it is not acceptable to simply say that this is a problem that comes from across the boarder.

  5. I NEED to breath!!!!!!!!!!! The air quality is continously dropping even at the outlying island where I live on and it has NO car. I cannot imagine how the rest of HK is like.
